The role
The primary role of the senior project manager is to ensure high-quality and timely project management for a multi-country, multi-year, multi-partner European Union-DEVCO award, "Building Resilience: Education Opportunities in Fragile and Crisis Affected Environments". Key roles of the senior project manager are to provide a link between the two implementing Country Offices, SCI Niger and the SCI DRC and ensure that implementation in the two countries is according to donor agreement and that all communication between stakeholders is timely, transparent and harmonised. The senior project manager will act as the main link between the various stakeholders, including, research partners in the UK, Niger and the DRC, project managers in the two country offices and technical advisors.
The senior project manager will support the in-country project managers and project teams in both the DRC and Niger to implement a quality and timely project, support and coordinate requests for technical assistance and help to flag and resolve any issues that may delay or affect the achievement of results and targets, receive sufficient feedback ensuring that project implementation adjustments are made as needed and in a timely fashion.
The senior project manager initiates and supports key processes for planning and reporting and gathers and ensures quality inputs from the DRC and Niger country teams, led by in-country project managers. The senior project manager collects necessary information and links the program areas/countries and members. The senior project manager also supports and facilitates contact between the two Country Offices with relevant information coming from Save the Children Norway, Save the Children United Kingdom, local research institutions, local donor representative(s), and other potential stakeholders. The person provides overall support in achieving results.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Master's Degree in Development studies/ social science/ education/ organisational development is highly desirable, or equivalent experience.
Additional training in Education in crises, Child Protection, and any relevant area will be an added advantage, such as project management.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential:
- Demonstrable understanding of the complexity in coordinating a project with multiple stakeholders in the DRC and Niger, Save the Children member offices in Norway and the United Kingdom, and academic research institutions.
- At least 4 years of experience with at least 2 years of managing increasingly complex projects.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently toward goals in a complex, diverse environment with multiple and changing demands.
- Demonstrates superior inter-personal skills, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Able to handle broad-based, often complex, communication for internal audiences and ensures open communication across program teams.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple partners and internal collaborators, such as finance, awards, project and operational teams as well as coordinating and clearly communicating with external parnters, such as research institutes and other government partners.
- Demonstrated experience managing multi-million-dollar projects.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills, a collaborative and flexible manner, creativity and willingness to innovate.
- Proven leadership qualities, negotiation skills, and ability to collaborate with a wide range of partners and stakeholders is required.
- Fluent oral and strong analytical, written English and French communications skills required.
- The ability to travel between Niger and DRC as well as in Europe.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Region, SCI, members and/or donor.
Contract length: 1 Year
Location: Either Niamey Niger or Kinsasha DRC
