Background:

UNICEF Georgia Office seeks to build a roster of selected graphic designers to assist in developing artworks of documents / publications produced on a long-term basis. The selected graphic designers will work on a demand basis, when called by UNICEF.

Key requirements and deliverables:

  • Deliver creative and innovative ideas for print, electronic, web-based and design and layout of reports and other products.
  • Work at his/her place and have all the necessary equipment and software for producing designs/layouts for brochures, publications, bulletins, flyers, cards etc as per UNICEF brand guidelines;
  • UNICEF will provide edited text and photos for a particular product;
  • Advice on a design concept and format/design/layout in line with UNICEF branding guidelines and submit at least three versions of a design for a particular product. UNICEF will select one design out of the three suggested options;
  • Advise on final specifications for printing;
  • Create different illustrations and other graphic work such as presentations and design of packaging;
  • After finalizing design in close consultation with UNICEF Communications Officer, the consultant should finalize the print-ready version of a particular publication;
  • Send the electronic as well as print- ready versions of a design to UNICEF and keep an archive of all the UNICEF layouts as well.
  • Submit the print-ready version of a publication to the printing house advised by UNICEF. The designer will be responsible to sort out all the technical issues with the selected printer.

Qualifications/experience required

  • Strong theoretical and practical background in graphic design, including theuse of design software's such as Adobe Design Premium, In-Design, CorelDraw, etc.;
  • Solid experience in working as a designer;
  • Proven experience of graphic production from start to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes and colour management;
  • Knowledge of standard software packages;
  • Good understanding of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms;
  • Knowledge of Georgian and English languages; Knowledge of Russian is an asset;
  • Ability to deliver products on time and within agreed budget;
  • Have a workstation with the relevant software for design/layout.

Performance indicators

Consultant's performance will be evaluated against the following criteria: timeliness, responsibility, initiative, communication, and quality of the products delivered.

Unsatisfactory performance

In case of unsatisfactory performance the contract will be terminated by notification letter sent 5 days prior to the termination date. In the meantime, UNICEF will initiate another selection in order to identify appropriate candidate.

Payment will only be made for work satisfactorily completed and accepted by UNICEF.

The contractor takes responsibility of meeting agreed deadlines. These must be agreed before work commences. In case of failure of meeting the agreed deadline, UNICEF keeps the right to apply appropriate financial penalties up to the full cost of the material.

  • Portfolio - copy of catalogue or samples of the design work, if available
  • Reference list
  • Fee rates (per publication as indicated below)

Leaflet - Colour - 4+4, A4 two folded, Poster - Colour - 4+0, A2, Desk calendars - Colour- 4+4, format - 210mm x 115mm, printed both sides full colour, 13 pages Newsletter UNICEF in Georgia - Periodical, journal-type edition, Colour (inside) - 4+4, cover/back page - 4+1, A4 Format, Paper(inside)- glossy(mute), pp 8-12 Book - cover Colour - 4+4, Inside - colour 2 + 2, A4 Format, pages - from 100 to 300 Fact sheets with major information on various interventions Formatting reports in word/pdf for website Invitations - electronic and print versions Certificates Simple infographics & illustrations Various project logos (with logos of several organizations) Branded visibility items (banners, pads, note-pads, letterheads, etc.) Branded slides for PPT presentations
